america's sweetheart

Sarah Palin Quickly Backtracks on Birther Conspiracy

Well, that certainly didn’t take long! Just hours after telling a radio host that the public is “rightfully” making President Obama’s birth certificate an issue, that it’s a “fair question,” and implying that she would make it an issue herself if the public wasn’t already doing so, Sarah Palin took to her beloved Facebook page to declare that she has never “suggested that [Obama] was not born in the United States.”

Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask … which they have repeatedly. But at no point — not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews — have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.

Well, besides what you just said on the radio, sure. Though it’s true, everyone does have the right to ask whatever questions they want, whether about Trig’s birth or Obama’s birth. But those who ask them don’t have the right to be taken seriously as political leaders.
