Are You a Negro?

It’s 2010, which means we’re once again counting people for the Census. But it doesn’t feel like 2010 to some people filling out the Census, because one of the options in the race section is “Negro.” A Census spokesman says the word was included this year, as in previous years, because “many older African-Americans identified themselves that way, and many still do.” Eh … we think a description that only said “Black, African Am.” would be pretty self-explanatory, too.
