‘Chihuahua Airlift’ a Masssive Success

There was a line of nearly 300 people outside the ASPCA yesterday, all hoping to adopt one of fifteen Chihuahuas that were put on display at noon. Eventually all eleven that were well enough to be sent away with families found new homes. Why the Chihuahua rush, you ask? Because little purebreds of the breed are unusual to find in shelters in New York, but there’s an overabundance of them in the San Francisco area. In fact, there are so many that Virgin America airlifted fifteen of them across the country in a dramatic rescue effort that has come to be known as the “Chihuahua Airlift” of 2010. [NYDN]
