Haiti Needs $3 Billion to Rebuild

As talk begins to shift from disaster response to rebuilding in Haiti, Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told a group of international donors today that he needs $3 billion and four or five years to rebuild Haiti back to its pre-earthquake state. “And that is returning to a situation that everyone agreed was not acceptable,” he said. As much as they want to help, donor countries told Bellerive to slow his roll as they figure out exactly how much money Haiti needs. Apparently the country has a history of mismanaging funds. [NYT]
