In an interview with PBS's Tavis Smiley recently, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was asked whether she could foresee herself staying on as Secretary of State for eight years (if President Obama is reelected). Her answer: Uh, no.
HILLARY CLINTON: No, I really can’t. I mean, it is just
TAVIS SMILEY: No to what? All four or eight?
HILLARY CLINTON: The whole, the whole eight, I mean, that that would be very challenging.
Instead of schlepping around the globe, trying to untie diplomatic Gordian knots and having her fashion sense mocked by deranged rogue leaders, Hillary says she would spend her time "reading, and writing, and maybe teaching, doing some personal travel."
Of course, Smiley was legally obligated to ask whether, in the midst of reenacting Eat, Pray, Love, Hillary would find the time to run for president.
TAVIS SMILEY: And finally, just for the record, you have said before, emphatically, in fact, that you are not interested in running again for President of the United States, I’m taking your answer now to mean that that’s still the same?
HILLARY CLINTON: Absolutely not interested.
Interesting. Clinton often qualifies her denials in some subtle way, but not this time. Hillary Tecumseh Clinton, is that you?
