New York City's unemployment rate for the month of December hit 10.6 percent, higher than it has been in 17 years. That means about 425,000 New Yorkers tried and failed to find jobs in December. To top it off, a Melba Toast factory in the Bronx that employees 228 people is moving to North Carolina. [NYT]
