Monserrate Loses Bid to Take Back Senate Seat

Hiram Monserrate came up short tonight in his attempt to regain his State Senate seat, losing by a wide margin to Jose Peralta in a special election. Peralta’s win was expected, as the Queens assemblyman boasted significantly more support and funding than Monserrate, who was kicked out of his seat after being convicted of assaulting his girlfriend. Early returns indicated Peralta earned about 60 percent of the votes, with Monserrate at 34 percent. While there’s no telling what Monserrate may run for next, we’re guessing tonight he’s prescribing many a haircut. [NYT]
