ABC and CBS Newscasts Hit Record Lows in First Quarter

CNN isn’t the only network hemorrhaging viewers in prime time this year. ABC World News, hosted by Diane Sawyer, has posted its lowest first-quarter ratings since Nielsen began tracking them in 1987. And things are no better at CBS, where Katie Couric’s Evening News hit a new low for the first three months of 2010.

But don’t count out network newscasts just yet. NBC is actually doing better than in recent years, as Brian Williams’s Nightly News scored its best first-quarter ratings since 2005. Some experts are citing the Olympics for the boost, though we like to think his recent string of winning comedy spots may have had something to do with it.
