Police Arrest 56 After Gang Outburst in Times and Herald Squares

After a gang-related mêlée in Times Square and Herald Square late Sunday night — which Mayor Bloomberg referred to as “a bunch of gang members wilding” and which others compared to the "bad old days" of seventies New York — 56 youths have been arrested or given summonses. Four people were shot after hundreds of “thugs” descended upon the squares on Easter Sunday night, in what cops say has become an annual tradition.

"There's a bunch of people that think it's cute to go out and to run around and to cause chaos," Bloomberg said. "We're not going to stand for it."

You hear that, gang members? Crazy, violent fracases that spill into New York's most tourist-heavy areas? So not cute.
