Prospect Park Has Come a Long Way in Three Decades

Thanks to park administrator Tupper Thomas, in 30 years Prospect Park has improved in physical quality and popularity — visitors have nearly quintupled, and in just over twenty years its budget has gone from $200,000 to nearly $9 million. But there’s one thing she hasn’t quite managed to achieve that this week, as she prepares to retire, she discussed with the Times: Visitors to Prospect Park seem to still informally divide themselves between black families, who collect themselves on one side of the park’s Ravine, and white families, who gather on the other.
