‘Suspicious Vehicle’ Investigated Near Union Square (Updated)

The NYPD and the Fire Department are investigating a “suspicious vehicle” on East 14th Street and Irving Place tonight. They arrived at the scene at 10:15 p.m. and immediately evacuated nearby buildings, law-enforcement sources said, and “the bomb squad has responded and is investigating,” according to a police spokesman. The Daily News says that “gas containers” were spotted in the back of the vehicle, though that has not been confirmed by police. [NYDN]

Update: The NYPD gave an “all clear” late Thursday night after completing an investigation of the car, a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. Police are still questioning the vehicle’s owner, but the security alert for the area has been dropped.
