Bloomberg to Avoid Teacher Layoffs by Canceling Raises

Mayor Bloomberg announced today that instead of laying off 4,400 teachers to help close the city’s budget gap, he’s decided to cancel the annual 2 percent raise that teachers were set to receive over the next two years. Great news for the 4,400 who would’ve been laid off, and for the kids. For the rest of the 80,000 teachers … ehhh. [City Room/NYT]
