Government Shutdown Avoided for the Time Being

The New York Senate avoided a dramatic shutdown of the state government tonight, as the Democrat-led Assembly narrowly passed David Paterson’s latest emergency spending plan, approving $327 million in mental-health and social-service cuts instead of risking the shutdown. So our streets will be safe from anarchy for at least another week. [NYDN]
