Times National Desk Launches Two New Bureaus, One Headed by Sulzberger Heir Himself

We hear national editor Rick Berke asked around to a bunch of young reporters to see if they were interested in taking a new Kansas City gig as part of his new Midwestern and Plains states coverage before he found a seemingly unlikely taker: A.G. Sulzberger, the hardworking and well-liked part-owner of the paper and son of Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. The Observer had Friday’s internal memo on the appointment, which not only notes that Marc Lacey has been running the recently contentious Phoenix bureau that will share the region’s coverage, but also reveals that Sulzberger is a vegetarian. Which is sure to be fun in the land of barbecue.
