What Sounds Worse Than Cutting Your Own Arm Off to Free Yourself From a Broken Furnace?

Not quite pulling it off. Thirty-one-year-old Jonathan Metz was trapped for two days in his own basement, left arm stuck in his broken furnace, when he decided to chop off his own arm. He fashioned a tourniquet and began sawing. A day later, when police arrived and found him, he hadn't quite made it through. There is a silver lining, though: He sawed enough off to prevent catching gangrene from his rotting forearm, which probably saved his life. [HuffPo]
