As a mother, Hillary Clinton is excited and nervous and emotional about her daughter’s upcoming wedding. But as a stateswoman, she’s overcome with pride that America has gotten to a point where a Methodist from a powerful political family is able to marry a Jew from a powerful political family, and nobody seems to mind. “We recognize the right that every single person has to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” she tells NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, “and over the years so many of the barriers that prevented people from getting married crossing lines of faith or color or ethnicity have just disappeared.”
And now they’re all gone. All of them. And everyone can marry whomever they want. Because that’s how enlightened we are. Hooray, America!
