The Washington Post and Newsweek columnist, probably the most widely-known writer currently at Newsweek, is the latest high-profile figure at the magazine to jump ship. And adding a bit of added sting to the departure, Zakaria is heading to rival Time, where he will write a column every other week as a contributing editor. (He currently hosts a foreign affairs program for CNN, which - like Time - is owned by parent Time Warner.) Zakaria’s name had been bandied about as a potential replacement for former Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, but Zakaria told the Times he’s more interested in writing than figuring out how to revive the financially-struggling magazine: “I very much want to be in the business of creating content, of doing stories all over the world, rather than figuring out what the business model is for Newsweek on the iPad, although that’s very important work as well.”
