While you were enjoying a surprisingly bearable afternoon on Saturday, what you may not have realized was that your sudden and welcome lack of discomfort came at the cost of experiencing history. That’s because Saturday the 31st was cool enough to lower July’s average temperature below that of July 1999, making last month only the second hottest of all time, instead of the hottest.
