Despite the sagging state of the economy over the past year, it turns out the superrich are doing just fine! Forbes’ annual list of the wealthiest of the wealthy, out Wednesday, reveals that the combined net worth of the so-called “Forbes 400” has actually climbed 8 percent in the past year, up to $1.37 trillion. Bill Gates is still the country’s richest man with an estimated fortune totaling $54 billion. Warren Buffett places in second ($45 billion) and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison stands in third (a paltry $20 billion). Where does New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg fall? With an estimated fortune of $18 billion, Bloomberg landed at No. 10 on the list. [CNNMoney, DealBook/NYT]
