Since he won the Democratic nomination for Senate in South Carolina a few months ago, Alvin Greene's chances of defeating Republican incumbent Jim DeMint have remained fairly consistently at zero percent. But as he left a courthouse today after a brief hearing related to those pornography charges ("He was attempting to flirt with a young lady who had no interest in him," his lawyer said), Greene revealed his new line of attack.

Avoiding a cluster of reporters waiting for him to exit the courthouse via the front door, Greene would only say to reporters outside a back entrance, "The opponent started the Recession!" He repeated that phrase more than a dozen times and declined to elaborate.

DeMint, suspiciously, has yet to deny the charge. Check ... mate.
