When Meg Whitman’s the Alternative, Even Former Foes Can Hug It Out

Bill Clinton embraced California gubernatorial hopeful Jerry Brown last night at UCLA, and neither of the men brought up that bitter ‘92 Democratic presidential primary “which propelled Clinton to the White House and Brown back to local politics,” nor did they bring up Brown’s crack last month about Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky. Instead, Clinton solidified his endorsement of Brown over Republican Meg Whitman with a big hug, proving, beautifully, that former rivals can put their differences aside and come together in order to defeat another rival, when it’s mutually beneficial. Aw, politics.
