Al Qaeda–Linked Woman Arrested in Yemen

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said authorities have arrested a woman near the airport in San’a, Yemen’s capital, who is linked to al-Qaeda’s Persian Gulf faction, in connection with yesterday’s foiled plot to mail bombs to Chicago. The woman was reportedly taken into custody after a tip from UAE officials led Yemeni security forces to surround a home she was crashing at in aftermath of the foiled terror plot. Officials said the woman was detained as part of a widening search for suspects. Meanwhile, British Home Secretary Theresa May said the package aboard the plane from Yemen was possibly intended to take the flight down in mid-air. [NYP, NYDN, Lede/NYT]
