Note to Congressmen: Covering Up Your Affair With an Intern Isn’t Always the Best Strategy

Opening arguments begin today in the trial of Ingmar Guandique, a gang member serving time for attacking two women in Washington, who bragged to other inmates he raped and killed 24-year-old Chandra Levy in 2001. Prosecutor Amanda Haines told the jury that the fact that Congressman Gary Condit tried to keep his affair with Levy secret caused investigators to mistakenly pursue him as a prime suspect and “allowed Mr. Guandique to hide in plain sight.” [AP]
