American Diplomat Concludes That ‘Inferiority Complex’ Prevents Canadians From Discussing the United States

According to WikiLeaks cables published in Canada's National Post today, an American diplomat in Ottawa noted: "The level of anti-American melodrama [in Canada] has been given a huge boost ... as a number of programs offer Canadian viewers their fill of nefarious American officials carrying out equally nefarious deeds in Canada, while Canadian officials either oppose them or fail trying ... an indication of the kind of insidious negative popular stereotyping we are up against in Canada." Another cable noted that the U.S. was not a popular topic of discussion during the 2008 Canadian elections, and, according to one American diplomat: "This likely reflects an almost inherent inferiority complex of Canadians vis-a-vis their neighbor."
