House Passes DREAM Act

The House is bustling this evening. The body just passed the DREAM Act, which allows a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants with at least two years in college or the military who came to the United States before they turned 16. Given the Republicans’ truculence lately, we weren’t sure this one would go anywhere in this lame-duck session. Ultimately, though, it probably won’t. The controversial bill (which some Republicans have cleverly dubbed “the nightmare act”) is expected to die in the Senate. [Reuters, HuffPo]
