Gabrielle Giffords Able to Stand

The story of Representative Gabrielle Giffords’s miraculous recovery just keeps getting better. A day after it was reported that Giffords might be able to leave the hospital in a matter of weeks or days, she took another step toward recovery. Giffords reportedly stood up, with assistance, for the first time since entering the hospital. Her husband, Mark Kelly, said that she was also able to sit in a chair in the hospital room. This is good news, as Giffords prepares to move to the TIRR Memorial Hermann rehabilitation facility in Houston. The family chose TIRR because of its outstanding reputation for dealing with serious brain injuries, and because Kelly and Giffords have family in the area. The move could come as soon as Friday.
