Parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Massapequa Park, Long Island, have been warned that they may have been exposed to hepatitis A through communion wafers during two Christmas masses. "I can't disclose any information on who may have transmitted it," said county health spokewoman Mary Ellen Laurain. But "a person involved in the communion process has tested positive for hepatitis A." The risk of infection is apparently low, but anyone who took communion during those masses can get vaccines at the church's auditorium today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Gives a whole new meaning to "Take this bread and eat it, it is my body. Take this cup and drink it, it is my blood," amirite??
