Three Women Will Decide the Fate of Silvio Berlusconi

Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi has been indicted on charges that he paid for sex with a 17-year-old Moroccan prostitute (which carries a prison sentence of six months to three years) and then abused his power to get her released from police custody (which carries a sentence of four years to twelve years) after she was arrested for stealing 3,000 euros in an unrelated incident. Yikes. Way to make the Lewinsky affair look charming.

Berlusconi has a long history of legal troubles, but an equally long history of overcoming them. The man is made of Teflon. None of the charges against him have ever stuck. So there's no reason to think this case will be the one that finally sends him to jail.

Judges are assigned to each case through a computer system aimed at ensuring that the selection is random. In this case, it selected three female judges just days after tens of thousands of women staged rallies across Italy to denounce Berlusconi's conduct with young women, which they say degrades female dignity.

Oh, Berlusconi — man, you are so screwed.
