White House spokesman Jay Carney says the U.S. is in the process of finalizing unilateral sanctions against Libya in an attempt to try to stop the violence perpetrated against protesters by Muammar Qaddafi's roving militias. The U.S. is still discussing whether to partner with Europe on multilateral sanctions. We're not sure about the logistics of sanctioning chaos or whether a dictator holed up in Tripoli with African mercenaries and a death wish will respond. But the sentiment is sweet. [WP]
