A new ABC News-Washington Post poll confirms yet again the remarkable rise in support for gay marriage rights in recent years. For the first time in the poll's history, a majority of American adults, 53 percent, believe it should be legal for gays and lesbians to get married. And because 68 percent of adults under 30 support gay marriage, and 65 percent of adults in their thirties support it, the overall trend is bound to continue into the future. Also, since 58 percent of independents back gay marriage, by the time President Obama finishes "evolving" on the issue scare quotes because we're pretty sure he's already there it won't even present much of a political risk to him.
