NPR CEO Vivian Schiller Resigns

Following directly on the heels of the resignation of development executive Ron Schiller, National Public Radio’s CEO Vivian Schiller (no relation) has also stepped down, according to the radio network. Both come after conservative activist James O’Keefe released a video in which Ron Schiller pandered to fake donors who purported to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, and in which he said that NPR would be better off without federal funding. (O’Keefe must be happy today — after a series of failed sting attempts, he’s finally drawn blood again.) Vivian Schiller, who condemned the remarks, had also come under fire for her quick decision to fire NPR contributor Juan Williams over racially charged comments. NPR’s David Folkenflik apparently just said on Morning Edition, “I’m told by sources that she was forced out.” But, naturally, we didn’t hear it on WNYC because of this week’s pledge drive.
