The small town of 109 people is abuzz with the news that it has been named the United States' new mean center of population, which the Census Bureau describes as "The place where an imaginary, flat, weightless and rigid map of the United States would balance perfectly if all 308,745,538 residents counted in the 2010 Census were of identical weight.” The population center has gradually drifted southwest since the nation's founding, as Americans slowly discovered the joys of year-round sunshine and killing Native Americans for their land.
