Ha Vasko sees herself as a hero to the American man, a sort of modern day Robin Hood, with a twist. Even though she came to this country as a war refugee from Vietnam, the well-to-do 67-year-old sees it as her duty to redistribute the wealth to our country’s most needy. She’s been busted four separate times for felony pickpocketing in New York. After the first time she was busted last June, every time she returned to the city from Florida for a court date, she left the judge’s quarters and went right back to her haunt in Chinatown, where she’d rob, or attempt to rob, again. Why?
“I hate Chinese people … They sell fake stuff, take the money and send the money back home,” Vasko told the officers, according to a confession made public yesterday. “They get benefit cards and they don’t contribute anything back. So I take their money and give it to people who need it. I give it to homeless people who need it,” Vasko claimed.
