The hot buzz these days is that Eliot Spitzer has his sights set on the mayor's office in 2013. Aside from the Post's Charlie Gasparino floating the possibility last week, Spitzer himself recently declined to make a "Shermanesque" promise that he won't run. In other words, it could happen. Whether or not it will may depend on the strength of the rest of the wide open mayoral field and the degree to which people still care that he, you know, had sex with prostitutes and resigned in shame. However, his coyness is about as new as Mayor Bloomberg's shoes. As we documented last May, Spitzer has been very clearly not ruling out another run for office for quite some time. Why close the door now?
