Though one of the country's most popular senators, the three-term Maine moderate — she voted with the GOP only 69 percent of the time during the 111th Congress, less frequently than every Republican senator except for fellow Maine senator Susan Collins — would have a hard time making it through a Republican primary in 2012 against a tea party challenger.
