It Takes a Lot of Drugs to Get You Out of Rikers

What price freedom? Apparently if you’re locked up at Rikers Island, it’ll cost you around $90,000 in cocaine, or six and a half pounds of coke. That’s how much prison guard Robert Whitfield demanded in order to help an unnamed Rikers inmate escape. Whitfield and accomplice Islime Duvivier were arrested for arranging the deal, which would have helped the anonymous “drug kingpin” escape in return for cash and drugs. They were caught after an undercover DEA agent set up a sting. Whitfield, a 21-year veteran of the corrections department, was charged with drug possession, bribe taking, conspiracy, and misconduct.
