Barack and Michelle Obama were greeted by a 41-gun salute today at Buckingham Palace when they turned up to visit Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Duchess Catherine (a.k.a. the princess formerly known as Kate Middleton). A military band played both "God Save the Queen" and "The Star-Spangled Banner," and Obama was given a chance to inspect the Scots Guards. After a brief meeting with the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Queen showed the Obamas around the palace's Belgian suite, where they'll be staying. The rooms were last occupied by William and Kate on their wedding night, although a palace aide told reporters, "It may not be the same bed. It is the same suite." Also on the calendar today is a trip to the royal picture gallery, a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey, and a meeting between Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street.
