Death of America’s Archenemy = Must-See TV

It was 11:45 p.m. eastern time on a Sunday night when President Obama strode to a podium in the East Room of the White House to deliver some news to America, but despite the late hour and the short notice, 56.5 million people were watching on TV. That’s more than double the viewers for Obama’s Libya speech in March. It’s over 8 and a half million more than his first State of the Union address, and nearly 14 million more than his second State of the Union address. It was, according to the Times, “the most watched presidential speech in nearly a decade.” The next time Obama plans to give a boring speech about green energy or the status of one of the many wars we’re fighting, he should just spring it on us on a late Sunday night, and we’ll all think it’s really important. That strategy will probably only work once, though.
