New York Rangers’ Derek Boogaard Found Dead

Derek Boogaard, the 28-year-old NHL player who spent the past season with the New York Rangers, was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment on Saturday. An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be performed. Boogaard’s season with the Rangers was cut short after 22 games, when he suffered a concussion during a December 9 fight in Ottawa with Matt Carkner. Prior to joining the Rangers, Boogaard spent five years with the Minnesota Wild, “developing a folk-hero like persona,” according to the Post, by engaging in 54 fights over the course of 255 games.
