Police stopped a 39-year-old Manhattan man from jumping off the Williamsburg Bridge on Saturday, after he spent three hours perched on its ledge. Called to the scene by witnesses, two officers scaled the fence as the man remained expressionless, telling the detectives he would jump if they came closer. Eventually, sensing the man was about to jump, the detectives grabbed him and handcuffed him, pulling him to safety through a hole they cut in the bridge’s fencing. Taken to Bellevue Hospital, the would-be jumper said he has "child care issues." [City Room/NYT via Gothamist]
