President Obama’s specially designed Cadillac limo, nicknamed “The Beast,” comes with thick armor, bullet-proof glass, puncture-proof tires, an un-explodable fuel tank, and its own oxygen supply, so it can withstand almost any kind of attack imaginable. But it couldn’t even manage to carry President Obama make it out of the American embassy in Dublin today after getting stuck on the ramp as it left, perhaps catching on “a piece of metal sticking up that a gate might lock into,” according to one report. The Obamas vehicle’s occupants eventually switched cars, but not before a throng of cheering onlookers watched this dispiriting incident unfold:
Update: According to a Secret Service spokesman, the Obamas were not in the car at the time it got stuck. Here is the full statement:
- Departing the US Embassy - Dublin, the Secret Service Spare Limousine, carrying staff and support personnel only, bottomed out at the top of the driveway rendering the vehicle inoperable. Occupants were relocated into other vehicles and the motorcade departed out another exit without further incident. No injuries.
