The only woman to have performed the feat (Blondin did it first in 1859), she also crossed the 1000 ft gorge backwards as an audience watched from the banks and nearby bridge. After the Assembly passed a bill today permitting Nik Wallenda to perform a tightrope walk across Niagara Gorge, all that now stands in the way is the approval of Governor Cuomo. Hoping to sweeten the deal, Wallenda has reportedly promised to call Cuomo on the phone in the middle of the walk if Cuomo signs the bill. [Buffalo News]
