Two eighteen-foot sharks were spotted off a Suffolk County coast on Wednesday, keeping residents out of the water and requiring the shutdown of several Long Island beaches. “My bet is that they’re sharks,” said West Hampton Dunes mayor Gary Vegliante. “My hope is that they’re basking [not predatory] sharks.” But until officials know for sure, everyone’s out of the water.
