Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has returned to Caracas from Cuba, where he recently announced he was being treated for cancer. Chavez's return comes in time to mark the 200th anniversary of Venezuela's independence on Tuesday, a holiday typically celebrated with a parade. Chavez's return has not dispelled concerns that his condition may hinder his capacity to rule and prevent him from campaigning for a 2012 presidential election, but if you ask him, everything's fine:
"I'm happy," he said. "I'm fine." In a telephone interview later, Chavez told state television he was having breakfast and "devouring everything." A post in Spanish on his Twitter account said: "Here I am, back home and very happy. Good morning my beloved Venezuela! Good morning beloved people. Thanks be to God. It is the beginning of the return."
So that should settle it.
