News Corp. Could Face U.S. Investigation Under Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

By

Senator Jay Rockefeller made headlines this morning for threatening vague but "serious" consequences in the United States for News Corp., if it turned out that British journalists had targeted American 9/11 victims. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg has a more specific plan for going after the company, whether or not Americans were directly affected by the hacking scandal. He wants Rupert Murdoch's American-based corporation investigated under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which "forbids payments to foreign officials." We don't like to be left out of a good scandal over here. [Media Decoder/NYT]
