News of the World Phone-Hacking Scandal May Upgrade to a Computer-Hacking Scandal

Well, there’s certainly one thing that Scotland Yard and the shuttered News of the World share between them: a love of probing. London police announced that the phone-hacking investigation is expanding in order to check out “a number of allegations regarding breach of privacy received by the [Metropolitan Police Service] since January 2011,” including (but not limited to) computer hacking.

To do that, London police have created a whole new squad, Operation Weeting, which will allow Operation Tuleta to continue focusing on the phone-hacking at hand. “Some aspects of [Operation Weeting] will move forward to a formal investigation,” the MPS said in a statement today. So maybe Parliament will get to question James Murdoch again after all?
