Someone’s Trying to Sue Oprah for Acronym Infringement

OYP — or “Own Your Power,” the slogan for Oprah’s OWN — may already belong to someone else. That’s what Simone Kelly-Brown of Own Your Power Communications, Inc., alleges in a trademark infringement lawsuit dug up by Entertainment Weekly. Harpo’s “brazenly unlawful disregard for the existence and use of [the] trademark,” the suit claims, has “irreparably harmed” the non-Oprah entity’s brand. Harpo insists they did no such thing, and that they’re not even getting sued in the first place. [Inside TV/EW]
