Senate Blocks Reid’s Bill

Senator Harry Reid’s plan to save the country from default was blocked in the Senate, falling 10 votes short of the 60 needed to break the Republican filibuster. Meanwhile, debt crisis super-senator Mitch McConnell maintains that he and the president are “very close” to hammering out a deal that would involve $3 trillion in cuts over a ten-year period. [NYT]
