Jerry Buell, a former "teacher of the year" at Mount Dora High School in central Florida, thought that as long as he expressed his disgust with gay marriage on his private Facebook page, on his own time, nobody would care. He was wrong. Buell has been removed from the classroom while the school district investigates whether he violated its code of conduct when he wrote on July 25, "I'm watching the news, eating dinner, when the story about New York okaying same sex unions came on and I almost threw up." He added that we shouldn't "insult a man and woman's marriage by throwing it in the same cesspool as same-sex whatever!"
Buell insists that, despite his eloquent argument against gay marriage, he has no problem with his gay students. "I've had kids that I've known that have been homosexuals," he told the Orlando Sentinel. "They know that I don't hate them. I love them." Just as long as they're not being super-gay while he's eating! Ew!
