New York City Will Gradually Lose Its All-Caps Street Signs

ACCORDING TO A NEW FEDERAL LAW, AMERICAN STREET SIGNS NEED TO BE RENDERED FOLLOWING STANDARD CAPITALIZATION RULES. APPARENTLY, IT'S A LITTLE HARD TO READ THINGS WRITTEN IN ALL-CAPS! WHILE THE LAW ORIGINALLY SAID THAT STATES HAD TO BE IN COMPLIANCE BY 2018, THAT REQUIREMENT HAS BEEN LOOSENED, AND INSTEAD, WHEN NEW YORK CITY SIGNS REQUIRE REPLACING, THEY'LL HAVE THE UPPER-CASE/LOWER-CASE MIX. WHILE WE'RE HAPPY THAT THERE MAY BE FEWER ACCIDENTS, WE'RE STILL UPSET AT THE PROSPECT OF LOSING THE FORCEFUL, DISTINCTIVE LOOK. [NYP]
